Are your strategic aspirations aligned?

People have different ideas and ambitions. And that’s positive, at least at the start of a strategy development process. But once the visioning process is finalised, it’s crucial that the top team is fully aligned. And this is a challenge in itself, as it goes much further than saying ‘yes’ to a strategy document. The same words can mean quite different things to different individuals, especially when new team members with different backgrounds have recently joined the team.

Strategic assumptions: be very explicit

It’s therefore crucial that a top team has clear and explicit discussions on the meanings behind the words in order to fully align all team members. Because, as you will probably agree, even a small difference in understanding at the top makes a big difference at the lower levels of the organisation.
